Recap 2022: Reflections on the year gone by
Thanks for all your feedback and support, always!
As 2023 boots up, I look back on how we scaled this newsletter together.
In 2022, I tried to get inspiration from the environment around me — peers, ex-colleagues, friends and entrepreneurs — and share those learnings with you through these newsletters.
I tried to stay honest to implementing all that I wrote in the newsletters in my own professional life. These newsletters helped me to evolve my own leadership style and became a guiding star for how I would act on a daily basis.
All in all, in 2022 there was greater engagement on the articles while receiving constructive feedback and ideas, that helped me to evolve my thinking about what to write. It was also humbling to get industry leaders to write for Scale It Up; I truly hope those were helpful.
2022 was also the year when I lost consistency on my weekly writing in the second half of the year. Work got busier and it became a bit much to manage the weekly writing. I want to express my gratitude for everything that came my way — the love, the engagement, the requests and the feedback. Thanks a lot!
I take this opportunity to list some newsletters from 2022 which will be relevant in 2023. I believe that as leaders, 2023 will require us to rise to the occasion to drive alignment, manage teams and businesses. Essentially, I would not be surprised if 2023 forces us to Scale it Up ;)
Leadership: While a lot has been said and written about leadership already, this section of the newsletter has been both, inspired by my leadership style and also been an inspiration for me to evolve as a better leader. Here are my personal favorites from this category:
Own the room to drive action: A very important quality of being a leader is to be able to lead your teams towards actions. In this article, I talk about how you can establish your leadership and own it in a larger group or team. In 2023, people will look up to you to lead, so go ahead and own that room. Read on!
Why and How NOT to Micromanage: Micromanagement and being involved as a manager have a thin line separating them. In this newsletter, I have tried to decode that. I think it becomes more important as we move towards a challenging phase for businesses. Read here.
Alignment: Nothing can be achieved if your team isn’t working towards one goal. It becomes more important when the conditions around you warrant to drive insane focus.
Set Your North Star? What’s Next!: Alignment begins with setting up a North Star. But what lies next defines real success. Read this article to know how to drive alignment towards the most important metric.
Should You Build Alignment or Consensus?: Many leaders confuse consensus with alignment. Read this article to know why you should prefer alignment over consensus.
Team Building: Your team is your biggest resource and hence investing time to build your team is very important. Here are some of my top tips on how you can build a stronger team.
Have that conversation with your team: It is important that you are spending time with your top performers, listening to them and being available for them. Read here to know why these conversations are important.
How to build a relationship with your skip manager: As leaders we often focus a lot on building our relationships with our teams but in this article I speak about the importance of building relationships with your skip managers. Read on!
Apart from these articles, I highly recommend our guest posts which feature thoughts from industry leaders including Kirthiga Reddy, founder of Virtualness and Laddrr, and Jules Maltz, general partner at IVP.
I hope you enjoyed the last few days of 2022 and welcomed the New Year with your loved ones. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. See you around here!
